Jagdeep Dhankar elected as Vice President of India

New Delhi: NDA candidate Jagdeep Dhankhar has been elected as the new Vice President of India, election of which was held earlier today.

Dhankhar, the former West Bengal Governor, defeated opposition pick Margaret Alva by 346 votes.

According to Lok Sabha Secretary General Utpal Kumar Singh, who was the presiding officer for the 16th Vice Presidential election, said that 780 MPs were eligible to cast votes. However, a total of 725 MPs exercised their franchises. Out of the 725 votes, 15 votes were found invalid while 710 votes were valid.

Jagdeep got 528 votes while Margaret Alva got 182 votes, informed Singh.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Jagdeep Dhankhar soon after his election to the office at his residence in Delhi.
