Indian woman sets Guinness World Record with highest number of teeth

A 26-year-old Kalpana Balan from India has set Guinness World Records for having 38 teeth, the highest number of teeth in her mouth.

New Delhi: A 26-year-old Kalpana Balan from India has secured a spot in the Guinness World Records for having 38 teeth, surpassing the typical adult count by six. The record was confirmed by Guinness World Records, making Balan the female with the highest number of teeth in her mouth.

According to the official record, Kalpana possesses four additional mandibular (lower jaw) teeth and two extra maxillary (upper jaw) teeth. Her journey with these supernumerary teeth began during her teenage years when they gradually emerged, one by one. Despite facing challenges with eating due to food getting trapped between the extra teeth, she experienced no pain.

Upon discovering the additional set of teeth, Kalpana’s parents suggested extraction. However, her dentist advised waiting until the teeth fully grew out, as they could not be easily removed. Balan opted to keep the teeth, even after their complete emergence, choosing to forgo the extraction procedure due to apprehension.

Expressing her joy after achieving the Guinness World Records title, Balan stated, “I am so happy to get the Guinness World Records title. It’s my lifetime achievement.” Interestingly, she may have the opportunity to extend her record further as she still has two unfilled teeth.

The male record holder for this title is Evano Mellone from Canada, boasting a total of 41 teeth.
