Earthquake of 3.5 magnitude hits Jammu and Kashmir

Kishtwar: An earthquake of magnitude 3.5 on the Richter scale jolted Kishtwar of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday. As per information, the quake struck Jammu and Kashmir at 02:47:02 Indian Standard Time (IST) on Sunday.

As per reports from the National Centre of Seismology (NCS), the earthquake originated at 33.34 Latitude and 76.66 longitude. Notably, the epicentre of the earthquake was about 10 kilometers beneath the earth surface.

The NCS took to their official handle on X (formerly Twitter) to inform about the earthquake in Jammu and Kashmir. They wrote, “Earthquake of Magnitude: 3.5, Occurred on 07-04-2024, 02:47:02 IST, Lat: 33.34 & Long: 76.66, Depth: 10 Km, Region: Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir.”

No reports of casualties or injuries have been received yet.

Earlier this month, one person has died while over 50 people have been reported injured in the earthquake that hit Taiwan. A massive earthquake of 7.4 magnitude on the Richter scale hit the country during the early hours of Wednesday (local time). Tsunami alerts were issued in Taiwan as well as in parts of Japan.

The National Centre of Seismology took to their official handle on X (formerly Twitter) to inform about the earthquake. Reportedly, the quake originated at Latitude: 23.98 and Longitude: 121.60.

According to the USGS (United States Geological Survey), they epicenter of the earthquake was 18 kilometers towards the south of Hualien City of Taiwan. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Agency of Japan mentioned the magnitude of the earthquake as 7.5.
