Delhi Metro Expansion: DMRC to build 11 new link stations

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is carrying out the phase 4 expansion of the Metro rail network in the national capital.

New Delhi: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is carrying out the phase 4 expansion of the Metro rail network in the national capital. As part of the upcoming phase, as many as 11 new interchange stations will be constructed, bringing the total number of interchange stations to 40.

The new stations are designed to improve the Metro’s connectivity to extended areas in the National Capital Region.

The work on phase 4 expansion focuses on three priority corridors, according to media reports. The first is the 23.6-kilometre Silver Line hallway between Aerocity and Tughlaqabad, which will have three trade stations like Delhi Aerocity, Chhatarpur, and Tughlaqabad.

Seven new interchange stations will be coming up on the 29.3-kilometre RK Ashram Marg–Janakpuri West Magenta Line corridor. They are RK Ashram Marg, Pulbangash, Pitampura, Azadpur, Majlis Park, Haiderpur Badli Mor, and Peeragarhi. The Pulbangash and RK Ashram Marg stations will provide added connectivity to areas like Ghaziabad, Rohini, Noida, and Dwarka.

On the Mjlis Park-Maujpur Pink Line corridor, one interchange will be constructed at Maujpur. This corridor is 12.3 kilometres long.

Additionally, according to reports, DMRC will transform the Delhi Aerocity metro station on the Airport Express Line into a significant interchange hub to link the Tughlaqabad-Aerocity Silver Line corridor. Under Phase 4, the Azadpur Metro station will become the second “triple interchange” facility, and the Tughlaqabad interchange station will become the first interchange station to have an underground parking facility.

Even though Phase 4 is due in December 2024, the project is expected to take another two years to finish. The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) approved spending Rs 1,000 crore on the Phase-IV project last week, with Rs 350 crore included in the 2023–2024 budget estimate.
