BJP leader killed in Patna due to lathi-charge during protest

Patna: Vijay Kumar Singh, BJP’s general secretary of Jehanabad district, died during a police lathi-charge in Bihar’s Patna on Thursday.

Hundreds of BJP leaders and workers were protesting in Patna against the Bihar government’s teacher recruitment policy and to press for the resignation of Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Prasad Yadav.

Police intercepted the protesters while they were marching towards the Vidhan Sabha and resorted to lathi-charge with the aim to disperse the saffron leaders and workers. As a result of this, several of them including Vijay Kumar Singh sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Vijay Kumar Singh, who also sustained injuries on his head and chest, was rushed to the Tara nursing home; however, he died during treatment in the hospital.

Several leaders of the saffron party including MP Sushil Kumar Modi were also detained by the cops but later they were released in the evening.
