Bengaluru: Meet Arun Yogiraj, a Karnataka based sculptor whose “Ram Lalla” idol has been finalised in the grand Ram Temple in Ayodhya on January 22, 2024.

The Ram Temple is all set for opening by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

On Monday Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi announced that the statue of Ram Lalla has been sculpted by Arun Yogiraj of Mysuru, and has been selected for installation at Ayodhya.

In his X post, Pralhad Joshi said, ‘Where Rama is, there is Hanuman’. The selection of the idol for the Prana Pratishtapana of Lord Rama in Ayodhya has been finalized. Renowned sculptor of our country is our proud Mr. Arun Yogiraj. The idol of Lord Rama carved by him will be installed in Ayodhya. This is another example of Rama Hanuman’s inextricable relationship. There is no mistaking that this is an important service to Ramlallani from Karnataka, the land of Hanuman.”

Former Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa said on his X post, “The idol of Lord Rama sculpted by the sculptor Arun Yogiraj of Mysuru has been selected for installation in the magnificent Sri Rama Mandir of Ayodhya, which has doubled the pride and happiness of the entire Rama devotees of the state. How is the voting process done for selection of idols for Ram Temple in Ayodhya

The Board of Trustees of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra will examine all the three idols of Ram Lalla and will submit their opinion to the trust, who will take the final decision.The voting process was held on December 30, 2023.

The three idols have been carved by Renowned sculptors Ganesh Bhatt, Arun Yogiraj from Karnataka and Satya Narayan Pandey from Rajasthan.

The idols of Ram Lalla are based on the sketch presented to the Trust by Mumbai-based renowned artist Vasudeo Kamath.

Yogiraj hails from Mysuru. His father is also a skilled sculptor. Arun has obtained a MBA degree and was working in a private company. But later, he gave up his job to pursue his passion.

Arun is known for his previous works such as the 12-ft tall statue of Adi Shankaracharya in Kedarnath and 30-ft statue of Subhash Chandra Bose near India Gate in Delhi.
