Amarnath Yatra halted as landslide blocks Jammu-Srinagar Highway

Shri Amarnath Yatra was suspended on Wednesday due to landslide on the Jammu and Srinagar National Highway in Ramban district.

Srinagar: The annual pilgrimage to Shri Amarnath cave shrine, which spans from Jammu to Srinagar, faced an interruption on Wednesday. A landslide along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in Ramban district led to the suspension of the journey. Additionally, the yatra from the Pantha Chowk base camp to Jammu has also been put on hold until the highway is cleared for safe travel.

The Jammu and Kashmir traffic police reported that a landslide occurred at T2 Marog Ramban, obstructing the Jammu-Srinagar NHW route. Travelers are advised to avoid using NH-44 until receiving confirmation from Traffic Control Units (TCUs).

“Jammu-Srinagar NHW is blocked due landslide at T2 Marog Ramban. People are advised not to travel on NH-44 without confirmation from TCUs (traffic Control Unit),” J-K traffic police said.

The annual Amarnath Yatra, which commenced on July 1, was scheduled to continue until August 31, 2023. However, the suspension due to the landslide has temporarily halted this sacred pilgrimage.
