4 workers dead, 20 injured as 3-storey rice mill building collapses in Karnal

Karnal: Atleast four people were killed and 20 others sustained injuries after a three-storey rice mill building collapsed in Haryana’s Karnal district on Tuesday.

According to the police, the incident took place around 3.30 am in Karnal’s Taraori area where over 100 workers of Shiv Shakti Rice Mill were sleeping.

Suddenly the roof of the top floor collapsed, resulting in the death of four workers.

They have been identified as Chandan, Avdesh, Sanjay, and Pankaj. They were found under the debris of the collapsed building. They were migrant workers and hailed from Samastipur in Bihar.

The injured ones have been immediately taken to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.

The Karnal district administration has launched the rescue operation and said that more workers are feared trapped under the debris. A team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has also reached the spot to carry out rescue activities.

According to the preliminary investigation, the building structure was unsafe, informs Karnal Deputy Commissioner Anish Yadav.
