4 killed after portion of rock collapses in mine in Chhattisgarh

Raipur: At least four labourers were killed while two others were left injured after a portion of a rock collapsed at an iron ore mine in Chhattisgarh on Wednesday. The incident has come to the fore from Kirandul area under Dantewada district of the state.

According to reports, the three of the deceased are identified as Bitta Bala and Nirmal Bala from West Bengal; and Tusar Bala. Meanwhile, the search for the fourth victim, Santosh Kumar Das is ongoing as he is said to be buried in the debris. The injured were immediately rushed to the nearby hospital.

After receiving information about the incident, police reached the spot and initiated a probe into the matter. Speaking about the incident to ANI, additional Superintendent of Police, RK Burman said that two injured people have been hospitalised, while the bodies of three labourers were recovered.

Meanwhile, Dantewada District Collector Mayank Chaturvedi said that a case has been registered, and an investigation has been initiated. Further detailed reports related to the matter are awaited.

Earlier, at least 23 people lost their lives while several others were injured after an ‘illegal’ gold mine collapsed in Venezuela. The accident took place at an open-pit gold mine in Central Venezuela, confirmed reports.

It is noteworthy mentioning that over 200 miners were present at the site when the gold mine collapsed in Venezuela. While some of the workers managed to flee from the scene, others got trapped inside the mine.

Reportedly, relatives of the trapped miners have gathered at the La Paragua, urging government’s assistance in the matter. They asked the government to send aircraft to remote locations to send help for the trapped miner at the earliest.
