Teachers’ Day: Despite paralysis, Guru Upendra Swain has created many singers

Swain sir is from the Patabalada village in Astaranga area of Puri district. He teaches both vocal and instrumental music.

Kakatpur: Today is Teachers’ Day. Each year September 5 is observed as the Teachers Day in our country. This is a day when students worship their teachers for the valuable teachings that he/she imparts.

Teachers are regarded as great. Such a great teacher is Upendra Swain, who himself has turned physically disable after being attacked by paralysis, but this has not stood as a hurdle on his path towards imparting quality music training to his pupils.

Swain sir is from the Patabalada village in Astaranga area of Puri district. He teaches both vocal and instrumental music.

Guru’s role is important in building human society. A guru has the ability to make ordinary people extraordinary.

On January 5, 1989, Guru Upendra Kumar Swain started providing music education to students in the premises of the Raghunath Jew’s matha in Astaranga. Since then, he has taught music and musical instruments to hundreds of students and created many artists.

In course of time, Guru Upendra Swain was suddenly afflicted with paralysis. The whole left side of his body get paralysed. However, his addiction to teaching art did not go away. Even though he is disabled, he continues to teach music to students.

Every Sunday, Guru Upendra is brought by students from his house to this Raghunath Jew Matha. He sits there along with a cane and teaches music and instruments to the students.

Guru Upendra teaches students beautifully. On the occasion of today’s Guru Divas, the students who learned from him have not forgotten to worship their Guru. The young and old students of Swian sir maintained the holy tradition of Gurushisya parampara by worshipping him with the help of incense stick and lamps. They also prostrated at his feet.
