Music maestro Ustad Rashid Khan passes away at 55

Hindustani Classical Music maestro Ustad Rashid Khan passed away at the age of 55 while undergoing treatment at a Kolkata-based hospital.

Hindustani Classical Music maestro Ustad Rashid Khan passed away at the age of 55 while undergoing treatment at a Kolkata-based hospital. He was undergoing treatment for prostate cancer.

Confirming about the demise, an official of the private hospital where Rashid Khan was undergoing treatment said, “We tried our best but fail. Ustad Rashid Khan passed away at around 3:45 pm today.”

Reportedly, the music maestro was on ventilation. Khan’s health condition deteriorated after a cerebral attack previous month.

The musician is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter. Songs including “Aaoge Jab Tum Saajna” from the 2007 movie Jab we Met and  “Allah Hi Rahem” from the movie My Name is Khan are some of his brilliant work in the Hindi film industry.

Ustad Rashid Khan was awarded the Padma Shri and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2006, the Maha Sangeet Samman Award in 2012 the Padma Bhushan in 2022.
