Sensex rises by 328 Points, Nifty surges to 19,490.30; Zomato soars 9%

Mumbai: The BSE benchmark Sensex started the trading day with a surge of 213.88 points, or 0.33 per cent, opening at 65,454.56. Similarly, the NSE Nifty50 also witnessed a significant jump of 75.35 points, or 0.39 per cent, opening at 19,457.

As of 9:26 am, the Sensex continued to rise, trading 328.89 points higher at 65,569.57, representing a 0.50 per cent increase. The Nifty50 showed even stronger gains, advancing 108.65 points, or 0.56 per cent, reaching 19,490.30.

The domestic equities market witnessed a positive opening, despite mixed global cues. Except for India Vix, all broader market indices commenced in the green, with the majority of sectoral indices showing gains in the opening session.

Metal stocks led the way as the top gainers, with the index surging by 0.77 per cent. The Nifty Auto also saw considerable growth of 0.70 per cent, followed by the Nifty Consumer Durables, which rose by 0.60 per cent. The realty index posted gains of 0.57 per cent, and the Nifty Financial Services 25/50 climbed by 0.54 per cent.

Notably, Zomato, the online food delivery company, experienced a remarkable surge of over 9 per cent in the opening session, with its share price trading at Rs 94.25 on BSE. The jump followed the company’s first-ever quarterly profit since its stock market listing in July 2021. Zomato posted a profit of Rs 20 million for the quarter ending June 30.

Among the top gainers in the Nifty Index were Cipla, Hindalco, SBI Life, Eicher Motors, IndusInd Bank, Wipro, HDFC Life, LTI Mindtree, Tata Steel, and Asian Paints.

However, some stocks faced pressure in the early trading session, with Bajaj Auto, Power Grid, Hindustan Unilever, BPCL, Sun Pharma, Apollo Hospital, Hero MotoCorp, ICICI Bank, Grasim, NTPC, and UPL being the top drags.
