Rupee opens with 21 paise appreciation against USD
Market opens with Sensex & Nifty in higher margin
Mumbai: The rupee on Wednesday opened 21 paise higher at 69.49 against the dollar as it weakened ahead of the US central bank’s outcome.
The rupee opened strong at 69.57 at the interbank forex market then gained further ground to touch 69.49 per dollar, displaying gains of 21 paise against the greenback.
The Indian currency on Tuesday had settled at 69.70 against the US dollar. The currency snapped out of its three-day losing streak due to falling crude fuel prices and US central bank’s meeting.
In other news, the S&P BSE Sensex rose nearly 0.66 per cent to 39,305.25 and the NSE Nifty 50 gained as much as 0.70 per cent to 11,771.80. The broader market index represented by the NSE Nifty 500 Index rose as much as 0.68 per cent.
Meanwhile, brent crude, the global benchmark, was trading at 62.23 per barrel higher by 0.14 per cent.
