Self-styled godman, Techie arrested over fake OTDC work orders

Bhubaneswar: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Odisha Crime Branch on Sunday arrested a B.Tech engineer and a self-proclaimed godman in the fake Odisha Tourism Development Corporation (OTDC) work order case.

The arrested persons have been identified as Chandan Akash Mohanty, a B.Tech engineer, who was working as an Assistant Engineer in OTDC, Bhubaneswar on a contractual basis and Bijayananda Choudhury alias Swami Bijayanandaji Maharaj, a self-proclaimed Baba.

The EOW arrested Chandan Akash and Bijayananda based on the complaint filed by the officials of OTDC. The Corporation had filed a police complaint against the duo after one Dhanurdhara Champatiray, a Special Class Contractor, informed it about the fraud done by the accused.

Chandan Akash and Bijayananda had reportedly taken over Rs 3 crore from Dhanurdhara assuring him of giving work orders from OTDC. Both of them had reportedly given him around 23 work orders between August and November last year.

Dhanurdhara, though was given the work orders, could not get any work as Chandan Akash and Bijayananda had given him the work orders purportedly using forged seal and signature of Executive Engineer of OTDC, following which the contractor had appraised the matter to the authorities of the Corporation.
