New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday extended deadline up to March 31, 2018 for linking of Aadhaar with various schemes and welfare measures. A bench led by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra gave the interim order while hearing a host of petitions challenging the Constitutional validity of the Aadhaar Act.
The deadline of February 6 for linking Aadhaar with mobile phone services also stands extended up to March 31 next year. Supreme Court further said that new bank accounts can be opened without Aadhaar but applicant needs to submit proof that he has applied for the card.
The government on Wednesday issued a notification to extend till March 31 the deadline for mandatory quoting of Aadhaar and Permanent Account Number (PAN) for bank accounts and certain financial transactions.
