US landlord stabs 6-year-old Muslim boy and her mother in Illinios hate crime
US landlord from Illinios has been charged with a hate crime after allegedly fatally stabbing a 6-year-old boy and injuring her mother.
Chicago: In a tragic incident, a 71-year-old landlord from Illinios has been charged with a hate crime after allegedly fatally stabbing a 6-year-old boy and seriously injuring a 32-year-old woman. The police believed he singled out the victims because of their Islamic faith as a response to the conflict between Israel and Hamas in the Middle East.
The incident occurred in the Chicago area. Police have found the woman and the young boy late on a Saturday morning at a home located in an unincorporated area of Plainfield Township, about 40 miles southwest of Chicago, according to a statement by the Will County Sheriff’s Office on social media.
As per the report, the young boy died, and the woman sustained multiple stab wounds but was expected to survive. An autopsy revealed that the child had been stabbed numerous times.
The sheriff’s statement explained that detectives determined the victims were targeted because of their Muslim faith and the ongoing conflict in the Middle East involving Hamas and Israel.
According to the Will County Sheriff’s Office, the woman had called 911 to report that her landlord had attacked her with a knife. She managed to escape to a bathroom and continued to defend herself.
The suspect in the attack was discovered outside the home on the same day, sitting near the driveway with a cut on his forehead. Joseph M. Czuba from Plainfield now faces charges of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, two hate crimes, and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. He was in custody and awaiting a court appearance.
Authorities have not released the names of the victims. However, the boy’s paternal uncle, Yousef Hannon, identified Wadea AI-Fayoume, a Palestinian-American boy who had recently turned 6, during a news conference hosted by the Chicago chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations. The organisation also identified the other victim as the boy’s mother.
