UAE astronaut Sultan Al-Neyadi first Arab to undertake spacewalk

New Delhi: Sultan Al Neyadi, an astronaut from UAE has achieved the feat of becoming the first ever Arab to make spacewalk. He ventured out of the International Space Station (ISS) and completed the task today on April 29 during the Expedition 69.

As per reports, the UAE astronaut concluded the Extravehicular Activity (EVA) along with NASA astronaut Steve Bowen. They undertook a 7 hour long spacewalk that was completed at 1.42 AM IST on Saturday, April 29, according to NASA.

During their spacewalk outside the International Space Station (ISS), Bowen and Al Neyadi laid cables and insulation on the “starboard truss” of the station. This was for the installation of the next pair of ISS Roll Out Solar Arrays, or iROSAs. Four iROSAs have been installed on the space station so far and two more will be mounted on the platforms installed by Al Neyadi and Bowen, reported Indian Express.

Besides, the two astronauts also reportedly freed up an electronics box that had a communications antenna during the said spacewalk.

Al Neyadi is scheduled to remain on board the space station till September 2023.
