Canadian Mom hospitalized after taking “75 hard” fitness challenge

A TikToker from Toronto, identified as Michelle Fairburn, found herself in the hospital after attempting the viral 75 Hard fitness challenge.

Toronto: A TikToker from Toronto, identified as Michelle Fairburn, found herself in the hospital after attempting the viral fitness challenge known as “75 Hard.” The challenge, popularized on social media platforms, involves rigorous daily workouts, a strict diet, and consuming a gallon (approximately four liters) of water daily. Participants are also required to refrain from alcohol and “cheat meals,” while adhering to a reading routine and taking daily progress photos.

Fairburn, a mother and realtor, shared her harrowing experience in a TikTok video, expressing concerns that she may have developed water poisoning due to excessive water intake. She began experiencing symptoms such as nausea, weakness, frequent bathroom trips during the night, and loss of appetite.

Fearing for her health, Fairburn sought medical attention, and the doctors diagnosed her with severe sodium deficiency, a condition that can become life-threatening if left untreated. The medical professionals advised her to drastically reduce her water consumption to less than half a liter per day.

Despite the health scare and the potential risks associated with the challenge, Fairburn defiantly expressed her determination to continue with “75 Hard,” declaring that she would not give up. The “75 Hard” challenge was created by Andy Frisella, a podcaster and CEO of a supplement company, but it has faced criticism from experts for its extreme nature, potentially leading to burnout and health issues.

“Sodium deficiency actually can be fatal. So now I’m going to the hospital and they’re going to check everything and then apparently they can raise my sodium gradually. I’m still gonna do the 75 hard challenge, and I’m not gonna give up, but he says I have to drink less than half a liter of water a day. I cannot believe this is actually happening,” she expressed in one of her videos.
