Washington: Five US servicemen died on Friday when their aircraft crashed into the Mediterranean Sea during a training mission. The news was confirmed by US officials on Sunday. Reportedly, the crash happened while the soldiers were practicing. Right after the accident, search and rescue teams had started looking for them. An investigation to find the reason behind the accident is currently underway.

Reportedly, the soldiers present in the helicopter were special operations personnel of the US Army. In an official statement, Lloyd Austin, US Defense Secretary, called it a ‘training accident.’

Since the attack on Israel by Hamas on October 7, the United States has sent two big aircraft carriers, Ford and Eisenhower, into the Mediterranean Sea. Along with which, the US has also sent ships and dozens of aircraft carriers to the eastern Mediterranean Sea. This comes as a measure to ensure that the conflict does not expand.

US European Command, which oversees the military operations of America in Europe, confirmed the crash on Saturday.
