WhatsApp introduces Darker Dark mode, redesigned navigation, new icons and More

WhatsApp has rolled out a host of new elements and changes for its mobile interface for both iOS and Android. The changes to the interface are quite discernable for example the darker dark mode that will offer a higher contrast and deeper tones to users. It will reduce eye strain in low-light conditions and increase legibility.

WhatsApp has also added a chat filters to he layout to make it easier for user navigation in the chat window. The recently introduced chat filters shows separate tabs for unread messages and groups. With the revised interface, the layouts of the app appear similar for both iOS and Android.

The company claimed in a blog post that after considering over 35 colour palettes, the new, consistent green WhatsApp interface was chosen. Meanwhile, the darker dark mode is currently available for the WhatsApp for Android.

WhatsApp has also updated its icons. The WhatsApp icon is now more rounded, outlined look. In addition, the app now has new animations and redesigned illustrations. The original default doodle background has also been subtly refreshed.

WhatsApp users with Android phones also get the bottom navigation bar, which was rolled out in March this year. iOS users get a new attachment layout with an expandable tray instead of a full-screen menu.

Meanwhile, WhatsApp is reportedly testing a new zoom control feature which will allow users to switch between different zoom options when clicking images or recording videos directly in the application.
