Microsoft Corporation is planning to end the support for Windows 10 operating system by October 2025. It will affect 240 million PCs.

Microsoft Corporation is planning to end the support for Windows 10 operating system by October 2025. According to researchers, this decision of Microsoft might lead to the disposal of millions of personal computers (PCs).

A Canalys Research revealed that about 240 million personal computers (PCs) might be scrapped if Microsoft stops support for Windows 10 in 2025.

This will lead to a massive addition of e-waste to landfills. The Research reported that the electronic waste from these PCs could weigh an estimated 480 million kilograms, which is equivalent to 320,000 cars.

The Canalys also warned that following the support end, the demand for devices without security updates will also subsequently drop.

Though some PCs would continue to function even with the support end for some years, most of the PCs will not be able to run without Windows 10 support.

Meanwhile, Microsoft is working on a paid annual security update plan to extend Windows 10 support for devices. The update will let the device run till October 2028. The price of the plan has not been disclosed yet.

Microsoft aims to discontinue support for Windows 10 by October 2025. The company is expected to include advanced artificial intelligence technology in the next generation of the OS.
