Indian Government issues ‘high-risk’ warning for Samsung phone users

Samsung phones with android versions 11, 12, 13 & 14 found to be vulnerable to security exploits. Indian Government issues high-risk warning.

In recent news, the Indian Government has issued a high-risk warning to Samsung smart phone users over numerous vulnerabilities. The alert has been issued via the Computer Emergency Response Team of India (CERT-In). The warning, notes as CIVN-2023-0360, critically concerns security spanning over older and newer Samsung models.

Samsung smartphone with Android versions 11, 12, 13, and 14 come under the radar due to their vulnerability to exploitation. Researchers have pointed out that the significant threats in the Samsung devices can potentially allow hackers to see through security restricts and access sensitive information. Detailed information on the same has been given in the official CERT advisory.

The latest vulnerabilities are found in the following Samsung Smartphone devices: Galaxy S23 series, the Galaxy Flip 5, Galaxy fold 5, among other devices.

The vulnerabilities are basically weak spots in the security walls of the devices. In case of a cyber-attack, the hacker can steal the phone’s SIM PIN, access arbitrary files, and steal sensitive information. In extreme cases, they can even take over the whole phone and control it like a puppet.

The warning issued to Samsung smart phone users advises people to update their OS and firmware as soon as possible. Until and unless the update is applied, users are to exercise caution while using their devices. To reduce the risks over these vulnerabilities, users can upgrade their security updates, keep their phone apps up to date. Users are also to remain careful while installing a new app on their phone and while clicking on unknown links.
