Berhampur: A youth was assaulted and tonsured for allegedly stealing an idol from a temple at Chanameri village under Digapahandi block in Ganjam district today.
As per reports, the youth identified as Suduru Choudhury was caught red-handed by the villagers while he was trying to steal the idol from a temple.
Later the villagers tied him to electric police and assaulted him. The mob also put a shoe garland around his neck and tonsured him. The youth was also paraded in the village before being handed over to the police.
On receiving information, Digapahandi police reached the spot and rescued the youth from clutches of villagers. Later, he was admitted to the Digapahandi Community Health Centre (CHC) for treatment.
