Malkangiri: In yet another case of moral policing in the state, a married woman was beaten up with her suspected lover, while hundreds of people watching in Kursubeda village in the district.
The victim woman invited the wrath of the mob after she was caught up by a group of villagers from her house in Kusubeda village with the alleged lover.
Alleging that the woman had an illicit relationship with the man, who hails from neighbouring MV 17 village, locals tied the duo to an electric pole near Kursubeda UG ME School and thrashed brutally in full public view.
Later on, the duo was produced before a ‘Kangaroo Court’ held by the Kursubeda village panchayat and released, after a note of reprimand.
Locals have claimed that the woman had been cautioned against maintaining the illicit relationship on earlier occasions but was not paying heed to it. However, the accused woman has rubbished the allegation.
Kursubeda Police have started investigation into the matter.
