Woman Allegedly Molested By Suspected Burglar In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident a 25-year-old married woman was allegedly molested and assaulted by a suspected burglar at her rented accommodation in Jagamara under Khandagiri police limits late last night.

The victim a nursing student was alone in her house when the miscreant sneaked into the house. “I was shocked to find him sitting near my bed. He threatened me with a sharp-edged weapon and forced me to remove my clothes. He also assaulted me and later decamped with my mobile phone and gold chain,” alleged the victim.

The woman later reached her neighbour and narrated her ordeal. She also informed the matter to her family members who reached immediately and took her to the police station. The husband of the victim is a merchant navy officer.

“She had wrapped herself in a bed sheet and was under trauma. I found blood oozing out of her private part. She narrated the sequence of events and I gave her my mobile phone to contact her family members,” said her neighbour who is also a working woman.

Police said that the woman has moved to the rented house last week. “We have started an investigation after getting a complaint. The victim has been sent for a medical examination,” said deputy police commissioner Anup Sahoo.  

The incident has raised questions on the safety of women in the city especially those staying at rented accommodations.

In September 2017,  a19-year-old working woman was allegedly killed in her rented accommodation at Kanan Vihar under Infocity police limits. Police had later arrested a married man for the murder.  

Similarly, police in the same month had arrested two youths on charges of entering a private ladies hostel and looting cash on knifepoint in Chandrasekharpur area in broad daylight.
