Wild Tusker Tramples Woman-Son Duo In Sambalpur District Of Odisha

Sambalpur: In a tragic incident, a woman-son duo have been trampled to death by a wild tusker in Akhadadanda village in Sambalpur district of Odisha.

The deceased have been identified as Rina Munda and her 10-year-old son Sahid Munda.

According to reports, one Prashant Munda of Gadakuna village under Mahada panchayat of Sambalpur district went along with his wife Rina and son to the nearby Akhadadanda village to work in a brick kiln.

A wild tusker entered into the village late at night while Prashant with his family and eight others were sleeping inside a hut. While the eight people managed to escape safely from the hut, the wild elephant attacked Prashant in which he sustained critical injuries whereas his wife and son were trampled to death.

On getting the information, the forest department officials, Kuchinda police, the sarpanch of Mahada panchayat and Jamankira forest range officer arrived at the spot and initiated a probe.

The forest department has provided monetary assistance of Rs 40,000 to the family.
