Transgender Leader & Social Activist Meera Parida Joins BJD

Bhubaneswar: Transgender leader and Social Activist Meera Parida along with hundreds of supporters joined the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in presence of party supremo Naveen Patnaik at his residence here on Sunday.

Meera Parida is the president of All Odisha Kinnar Mahasangha and hails from Gadatara village under Begunia block in Khurda district.

She is the Chairman Of All Odisha Third Gender Welfare Trust and has an NGO named ‘SAKHA’ that works to protect the rights of gender and sexuality minority individuals in Odisha.

Meera was bestowed with the ‘Best Transgender Leader in India 2016’ award by UNDP, NACO and HIV Alliance for her exemplary work in promoting awareness regarding HIV AIDS.

Noteworthy, another transgender named Kajal Nayak will be contesting the upcoming elections from Korei Assembly constituency in Jajpur district as a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidate.
