Tiger ‘Manish’ dies at Nandankanan

Bhubaneswar: A ten-year-old tiger named Manish died at Nandankanan Zoological Park here today.

According to the authorities of Nandankanan, the big cat was suffering from Blood Protozoan disease, caused by virus Cytauxzoon felis, for the last six months and was under direct supervision of experts of OUAT Veterinary College.

Manis was born from Rohit and Shailaza in the zoo. With the death of Manish, now the Zoo has 11 male and 13 female tigers.

The incident has shocked the animal lovers in the state, as a sloth bear namely ‘Banki’ had died following an illness at the Zoological Park earlier today,

The bear was under treatment at the veterinary unit of the park for past few days and succumbed at the age of 30 this morning.
