The sorrowful tale of a lady bus Conductor from Odisha: Watch

A woman from the capital city of Odisha has earned praise in lieu of her job that she undertook to nourish the family of four members. Meet Chhabi Pradhan, the conductor of ‘Mo Bus’ No. 29. Normally, the job of a bus conductor is tough and so women are seldom seen as conductors. Yet, Chhabi took up the task after her husband lost one of his hands few years back due to a road accident.

A native of Ganjam district of Odisha, Chhabi was enjoying her married life with husband Dusmanta. The two had loved each other and ended in marriage. Her family members were not in favour of this marriage, but she insisted and it happened. And to fulfil their dream, the couple shifted their base to Bhubaneswar. Dushmanta was running a catering business. He was earning well and the family was happily spending time.

However, after few years, once Dushmanta met a road accident near Khordha and one of his hands had to be amputated. Followed by the tragic accident, he was also attacked with paralysis. And so, he became unfit to undertake any job or business. The couple have two kids. The family spent money to their best for treatment of Dushmanta but he can hardly walk now.

As there were no other earning members in the family, now the responsibility to nourish the family fell upon the shoulder of Chhabi and she set out from home to earn.

Chhabi initially took up different types of work and finally became a bus conductor. She is well aware of the fact that this is a tough job for a woman. Yet, she works as a bus conductor. Her place of work is Mo Bus number 29.

After wrapping up the household chores, Chhabi goes to the bus Depot at Patrapada of Bhubaneswar in the morning. After collecting the ticket issuing machine and executing other formalities she heads to the bus that starts journey from Master Canteen. The work of the lady conductor goes on till night. Chhabi takes her lunch during her duty hour. And once the duty is over, she returns to her house at the Gate of OUAT farm. This is daily routine of the lady conductor.
