Tension grips Baripada hospital after woman delivers dead child

Baripada: Tension prevailed at Pandit Raghunath Murmu (PRM) Medical College and Hospital here after an expectant woman gave birth to a dead child and her family members alleged medical negligence for the same.

As per the report, one Surekha Behera of Bajratundi village under Baripada Sadar police limits had been admitted to PRM Hospital following labour pain on Thursday. After remaining under treatment for past three days she gave birth to a dead foetus last night.

Post the birth of the dead child Surekha’s family alleged medical staff’s negligence for the incident and claimed that a nurse on duty didn’t respond to them while the expectant woman was in acute pain.

“One nurse even demanded Rs 5,000 to attend the patient,” said an attendant of the patient.

The relatives of the patient held a protest at the hospital demanding action against the guilty.

Baripada Town Police reached the spot of late and tried to pacify the irate protestors.
