Tension at JK Paper Mill in Rayagada as workers launch cease work stir

Rayagada: Worker unrest gripped the JK Paper Mill located at Jaykaypur in Rayagada district today after contractual labourers launched a cease work stir pressing the company authorities to fulfil their 14-point charter of demands.

Over 4,000 contractual workers led by two employees union of the mill namely JK Paper Mill Employees Union and Contractual Workers’ Union took part in the cease work starting from 6 AM in the morning and locked up all nine gates of the plant. The production at the mill was badly affected as the agitating workers later went on to stop work at the mist chamber of the mill later in the morning.

District administration rushed 5 platoons of police force to the plant premise to prevent any untoward incident from happening.

Notably, the workers decided to went on with the protest after a talk between labour leaders and plant authorities at the Rayagada Sub-Collector’s office failed yesterday.

The agitating workers are demanding pay hike and regularisation of their jobs among others since long.
