Tension at Cuttack nursing home over woman patient’s death

Cuttack: Tension ran high at a private nursing home in Bajrakabati area here this morning after a woman patient died under treatment and her family members resorted to vandalism alleging medical negligence on the part of the staffs.

The victim identified as Subhadra Mohanty of Gangapur village under Kisan Nagar police limits had been admitted to the nursing home last Saturday after attempting to commit suicide by consuming poison.

As per the family members of the deceased, she had been under treatment for last four days at the nursing home and was showing improvement. While a medical expense of Rs 1.5 lakh have already been made on the patient, the nursing home staff had stopped her treatment since last night over non-payment of an additional bill of Rs 80,000 which was pending, due to which she died.

Family members and relatives of the deceased ransacked the furniture and glass fittings of the nursing home and locked up its main gain in protest to the incident and demanded action on the guilty.

Mangalabag Police reached the spot to pacify the angry relatives. Later it rushed the body for autopsy.

A case against the nursing home authorities have been registered at the Mangalabag Police Station in connection with the incident and  an investigation is underway.
