Cuttack: Tension prevailed at Athagarh sub-jail last night after prisoners ransacked properties including CCTVs protesting against shifting of a dreaded criminal from the jail to Angul.
Police said that the criminal identified as Rajib Lochan Das booked under National Security Act (NSA) was to be shifted to Angul on the basis of a court order. However other jail inmates protesting against his shifting ransacked tables, chairs and cooking equipment inside the jail premises. The inmates also damaged CCTVs in the jail by pelting stones. The prisoners also refused to take the food.
“After getting the information police personnel from nearby police stations rushed to the jail and brought the situation under control. A case will also be registered in connection with damage of property,” said SDPO, Athagarh, Alok Ranjan Ray.
