Tempo overturns as driver talks on mobile; 9 hurt, 3 critical

Cuttack: At least nine persons including a minor boy were hurt and three among them sustained critical injuries after an auto-rickshaw carrying them turned turtle near Bahapur petrol pump on Cuttack-Chandbali Road under Nischintakoili Police Station on Monday. All the injured were rushed to the Nischintakoili CHC by some locals immediately after the mishap.

As alleged by the students, the accident took place when driver of the auto-rickshaw lost control over the vehicle as he was talking on his mobile phone. He was distracted as a speeding bike tried to overtake him. In a bid to save the biker, the driver applied sudden break causing it to overturn.

“The auto-rickshaw driver was talking on his mobile phone and got distracted. He lost control over the vehicle while a speeding bike tried to overtake him,” alleged an injured student.

The mishap took place when at least eight students of BD Mahila Mahavidyalaya along with a minor boy were on their way back home boarding the auto-rickshaw.
