Keonjhar: Demanding the immediate arrest of the accused, students of Banka Primary School staged a road blockade on Champua-Joda route by placing the body of their teacher who was killed after being hit by a police vehicle on Friday evening.
Many vehicles were seen stranded on either side of the road following the road blockade.
According to sources, a teacher of Banka Primary School, identified as Surendra Mohanty, died on the spot when a jeep carrying police personnel of Joda police station hit him while he was returning home after school hours yesterday.
It is alleged that the vehicle fled from the spot following the accident which sparked off tension in the area under Champua police limits.
In a bid to pacify the angry locals, police rushed Mohanty immediately to Champua sub-divisional hospital.
However, students of the school, along with their guardians, staged the road blockade demanding compensation for the family members of the deceased this morning.
On being informed, Keonjhar Sadar SDPO wheeled into to the spot. The students were yet to lift the road blockade seeking a written assurance of action against the accused and adequate compensation to the kin of the deceased teacher.
