Staff Nurses stage protest at Koraput Hospital over “Safety and Security”

Koraput: Over 80 Staff Nurses on Monday staged cease work protest at Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital here in Odisha, demanding adequate safety and security for them in the hospital premises.

The protesting Staff Nurses alleged that two persons with police uniforms and family members of a patient came to the Male Surgery Ward in the government-run hospital last night and abused them with foul languages over shortages of Bed.

The verbal abuse continued till the wee hours of today but the security guards posted at the ward remained mute spectators, said a Staff Nurse.

In the morning, the Staff Nurses took the issue to the concerned authorities but their grievance was ignored. Hence, they decided to stage a cease work protest demanding adequate safety and security for them, said another Staff Nurse.

The Staff Nurses also requested the hospital authorities to arrange a peaceful environment in their workplace so that they could discharge their duty without any fear and uncertainty.

Hours after the demonstration, the Hospital authorities and local police reached the spot to pacify the protesters but in vain.

Meanwhile, healthcare in the hospital got severely affected due to the protest staged by the Staff Nurses.
