Dhenkanal: An elephant was killed after being hit by a speeding truck on National Highway-55 near Jeevankhol in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district on Thursday.
The mishap occurred when an elephant herd was crossing the NH in the wee hours, sources said.
Soon after the incident, the driver of the truck fled from the spot.
On being informed, Forest Department officials reached the spot and started an investigation into the matter.
