Shoe hurling at CM Naveen: CEC seeks report from Odisha SEC

New Delhi: Taking serious note of the incident of shoe hurling at Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) has sought a report from the Odisha State Election Commissioner. This was informed by MP Pinaki Mishra here today after meeting the CEC.

A delegation of the BJD MPs led by Mishra met the official and apprised him about the incident.

“The CEC condemned the act and said he was extremely disturbed that a Constitutional functionary has been attacked. Besides, has sought a report from the State Election Commissioner,” said the Parliamentarian while speaking to the reporters after meeting the CEC.

“The Chief Election Commissioner has also directed the Odisha Election Commissioner to take steps to avoid occurrence of such incident and ensure smooth conduct of the Bijepur by-poll,” he added.

A youth identified as Kartik Meher of Padmapur area hurled two shoes at Patnaik while he was campaigning at Kumbhari under Barpali block of Bargarh district yesterday. However, the CM’s security personnel caught the shoes while police arrested the accused from the spot.
