Jajpur: In a shocking incident, a man allegedly sold his newborn daughter for Rs 12,000 in Odisha’s Jajpur district.
One Kanchan, a resident of Sanaraipada village under Dharmashala police limits of the district gave birth to a girl child at Dharmashala Community Health Centre (CHC) at 6.45 AM on January 27.
However, Kanchan’s husband Nata Behera sold the newborn to a native of Mahakalapada area for Rs 12,000 on January 28 allegedly due to poverty.
On being informed, a team of child helpline members reached the Dharmashala CHC and started an investigation into the matter. They questioned Nata over the issue and he reportedly confessed to having sold the newborn baby.
The child helpline members said that they would rescue the baby girl and take action against the accused persons.
