Shelter Home Harassment: Dhenkanal Police takes Fayaz Rehman on 2-day remand

Dhenkanal: Continuing with the investigation process the district police today took defamed Beltikiri Dream Centre shelter home Managing Director Fayaz Rehman on a two-day remand for questioning.

During the remand period the police are expected to quiz Rehman on the illegal functioning of the shelter home on where girl inmates were allegedly sexually harassed and trafficked also. He is also expected to be questioned on the religious conversion of the students, on which a number of videos have surfaced on media recently.

Yesterday, the special Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) court allowed Dhenkanal Police to take Rehman on remand.

Notably, the sexual harassment of minors at the hands of the authorities came to light on Friday after a group of inmates informed it to the media. Later, a joint team of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and District Child Protection Unit raided the shelter home and verified its documents.

During the verification it came to notice that the shelter home was operating in the area since past two years without a registration under Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015. At least 54 minor girls and 40 minor boys were residing in the shelter home.

Later on Friday police arrested the Project Director of the shelter home Simanchal Naik, Assistant Director Udit Lima along with Rehman.
