Cuttack: The Commissionerate of Police, which busted the pre-natal sex determination scam in Cuttack recently, has reportedly arrested one more person for his involvement in the case.
Cops arrested the accused person today and identified him as Manas Ranjan Panda, a native of Jajpur.
While briefing the media about the arrest of Panda, ACP Amitabh Mahapatra said that the accused was living in Cuttack city and had sold the machinery needed to determine the sex of unborn babies to Prasanna Kumar Sahoo, owner of the Clinic, who has been arrested.
“Though he has admitted to have brought the machine from Ranchi and given to Prasanna, we are yet to know about the source of procurement of the machine,” Mahapatra said adding that till now five persons have been arrested in this case and further investigating is underway to arrest other accused who are involved in the case and are at large.
It is to be noted here that the Commissionerate of Police sealed the Alfa Healthcare Clinic in Cuttack for carrying out sex determination tests earlier this week. Sahoo and his assistant Basant Kumar Bardhan were arrested from the spot in presence of ADMO&PH Dr Mamata Mohapatra.
