Senior IPS Officer Santosh Upadhaya assumes office as DG of fire services

Bhubaneswar: IPS officer Santosh Kumar Upadhaya today assumed office as the Director General of Police, Fire Services, Commandant General, Home Guards and Director, Civil Defence.

The 1988-batch IPS officer replaced Arun Kumar Ray.

During the dazzling career spanning over more than three decades, he joined the police service in 1988 and worked as sub-divisional police officer and then as additional SP of Sambalpur and later then district SP of Malkangiri, Koraput, Puri, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal and Balangir districts.

He has the distinction of serving in all the specialised units of police that is training, crime branch, intelligence, vigilance, law and order operations, communications etc and also served as SP, DIG and IG.

Upadhaya also rendered public services as DIG of police, Bhubaneswar Range, Southern Range, Berhampur, Central range in Cuttack.

He has been conferred with President’s police medal for meritorious service and distinguished service. He was also awarded with Antarik Surakhya medal for working in Anti-Naxalite field as SP Malkangiri, Koraput, DIG Berhampur and Sunabeda ranges.

He has worked as Director Investigation of Odisha Human Rights of Commission. He was in charge of OPHWC as CMD. He assumed charge of state CID CB of Odisha and supervised work of CID CB, Economic offence wing special task force and cyber crimes from 2017 to 2019.

On promotion to rank of DGP, he assumed charge of DGP Prisons on January 1, 2020.
