Republic Day-2018: DGP reviews security arrangement in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Odisha DGP Dr. RP Sharma took stock of security arrangement at Mahatma Gandhi Marg ahead of the Republic Day celebration here on Thursday.

“Adequate security personnel have been deployed in all the district headquarters and the Twin Cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar for the Republic Day celebration tomorrow. Police personnel will keep close vigil on any suspected person. We hope the Republic Day celebration will be peaceful across the state,” said Sharma while speaking to the reporters.

Informing on the security arrangements for the state-level Republic Day celebration, Commissioner of Police Y B Khurania said, “Based on the intelligence inputs, a three-tier security arrangement has been put in place for the R-Day celebration this year.”

“Arrangements have been made for both foot and mobile patrolling. Cops in plain clothes will be deployed to have close vigil on any suspected person. Besides, striking force and quick action teams have been deployed,” he added.

As many as 150 senior police officers have been put in-charge to lead 25 platoons of police who will be stationed in and around the venue to maintain law and order. In addition, the specialized Quick Action Force Team (QAFT) will also guard the event.

For the first time, the commandos of national security guard (NSG), the elite counter-terror forces will be deployed in during Republic Day function.

The Mahatma Gandhi Marg has been put under CCTV surveillance, to maintain a strict vigil and a number of cameras have been installed for this purpose.
