Public Protests For Lifting Containment Zones In Odisha’s Rourkela Turns Ugly, Police Attacked

Rourkela: General public in Rourkela have come out on the streets to protest against the non-lifting of containment zones in various areas of the town.

The locals have resorted to violent means such as attacking the police, pelting stones and burning tires in the middle of the road. They have forcibly taken down the barricading of a few containment zones.

A huge number of policemen have been deployed on the spot to help dissipate the crowds and negotiate with the protesters.

It is noteworthy that few areas in Rourkela had been declared as containment and buffer zones after COVID19 positive cases were detected here. Many regulations and restrictions were also imposed by the district administration.

All restrictions have been lifted from the buffer zone but the containment zones are still under a number of regulations causing inconvenience to the public.  The locals have however protested against this move.
