Puri: Cops in the district had a tough time last night when they went to raid illegal liquor shops in Dahikhia village under Kakatpur police station area and irate locals brutally thrashed and injured an IIC leading them.

The incident took place late in the night, minutes after Kakatpur Police Station IIC’s arrival in the village with his team. After raiding an illegal liquor shop he reportedly tried to arrest a youth in connection with it, which was protested by a group of villagers.

Latter the police team rushed to neighbouring Kendrapati village for another raid but much to their dismay, angry locals detained it there also for at least two hours. However, the policemen’s plight didn’t end there as on their return a group of men from Dahikhia village intercepted them and beat up the IIC brutally inflicting injuries to him.

While the angry locals staged a road blockade on Kakatpur-Astaranga road protesting the arbitrary measures of police, the district administration had sent more policemen to the spot to maintain law and order.

No arrests have been made in the case so far.
