Parcel Bomb Case: Punjilal Meher shifted to Balangir Jail from Patnagarh

Balangir: Odisha Police today shifted the infamous Patnagarh parcel bomb attack case accused Punjilal Meher to Balangir Jail. Meher had made an unsuccessful attempt to escape from Patnagarh Sub-Jail last month.

However, in his reaction at Balangir soon after the shifting the accused who worked as an English Lecturer in Jyoti Vikash College in Patnagarh, rubbished his escape bid by alleging corruption in the Patnagarh jail.

“The allegation made against me is frivolous. The CCTV footages of the jail should be examined,” maintained Meher.

As per the allegation against Meher, he masterminded a blueprint to escape from Patnagarh jail along with 7 inmates on January 24. However, the bid was foiled by the guards after a security staff blew siren.

The former lecturer is cooling his heels behind the bars after blowing away at least two persons of Bholanathpada village of Balangir by parcel bomb on February 23 last year. He committed the crime to avenge workplace enmity with the mother of one of the victims.
