OSRTC bus services halted in Malkangiri fearing Maoist bandh

Malkangiri Bus StandMalkangiri: With OSRTC bus services stopped in Malkangiri district from today fearing Maoists’ activities in the area, people who depend on the government run buses to reach Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and other important places in the state from here are facing huge problems.

OSRTC stopped its passenger bus services in this district in view of the week-long bandh set to be observed by Maoists in protest against the recent police action to combat their activities in the area.

However, all private bus services of the state as well as government and private bus services from neighboring Andhra Pradesh connecting Malkangiri district are running smoothly.

Importantly, Maoists have neither formally announced any bandh in Malkangiri nor have they put up any posters in this regard in any part of the district.

Malkangiri SP Jagamohan Meena said, “We have an intelligence report that Maoists will observe a Week long Bandh. That’s why various precautionary measures have been taken by the government in this regard”.

OSRTC Bus services have also been stopped in Maoists affected Kandhamal district.
