Odisha’s 12 coastal districts put on high alert due to Cyclone Fani

Bhubaneswar: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has put an alert on Odisha’s 12 southern and coastal districts in view of the likely movement of Cyclone Fani. These districts shall receive heavy to very heavy rainfall in the next 48 hours.

South coastal districts of Puri, Khurda, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Ganjam will receive heavy to very heavy rainfall on May 2.

Cyclonic storm Fani is expected to get stronger on May 3 and hence a warning of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall has been extended to coastal areas of Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Puri, Ganjam Gajapati, Kandhamal Kalahandi, Angul and Keonjhar.

The weather in Odisha is expected to improve in Odisha on May 4 as the cyclone is likely to move north towards Gangetic West Bengal and Bangladesh.

Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) B P Sethi said apart from IMD reports, the state government is also keeping a watch on the information issued by international agencies such as the JTWC (Joint Typhoon Warning Centre) and others.
