Odisha SRC alerts collectors as cold wave grips state

Bhubaneswar: Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Bishnupada Sethi on Friday alerted all collectors to keep a close watch and take necessary action to deal with the cold wave situation sweeping across the state.

The SRC in his letter to all the collectors said the temperature is sharply falling in many districts.

On Friday, Phulbani recorded the lowest temperature of 7 degree Celsius, while Daringibadi shivered at 8.5 degrees. Ten other districts recorded minimum temperature below 12 degrees.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted that the night temperature is likely to fall further by 2 to 3 degrees at several places in the next 3-4 days.

“All collectors are requested to keep a close watch and take appropriate steps to deal with the cold wave situation. Necessary advisory with Dos and Don’ts to protect human beings and livestock from cold wave may be widely circulated,” Sethi said.

“People with no proper houses should be allowed to take shelter during night hours at school and other public buildings. Steps may be taken for proper management of night shelters in urban areas to provide accommodation to homeless and needy visitors,” he added.

This apart the SRC also urged the Department of Health & Family Welfare and Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Department to circulate suitable advisories for the safety of human beings and livestock.
