Odisha Minister Of State For Home Makes Surprise Visit To Khandagiri Police Station

Bhubaneswar: Minister of state for home Dibya Shankar Mishra today made a surprise visit to the Khandagiri police station.

Mishra during his visit directed the police officials to take stringent action against peddling of drugs in the area. The minister also asked for early disposal of complaints registered with the police station.

“The minister also stressed upon good behaviour towards public and cleanliness of the police station. He also advised us to answer the calls made by the public seeking help,” said a police official.

The Zonal Assistant Commissioner of Police, however, asked the minister to bifurcate the police station due to large population and increase in registered cases.

The Khandagiri police station which was set up in 1983 for around 20000 people is currently catering to a staggering population of 4 lakh. Similarly, the existing police station has jurisdiction of 70 Square Kilometers.  

The number of cases registered under the police station has also increased significantly in the last few years. As per statistics as many as 420 cases were registered with the police station in 2007, the number went up to 621 in 2018.
